What is the Techmap MCP Server?
The Techmap MCP server connects AI assistants and agents to Techmap's job postings data through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Ask Claude, Cursor, VS Code or any other MCP client for jobs in natural language - the assistant calls the Techmap Jobs API and answers with current postings, counts or a ready-to-use RSS feed URL.
The server is open source (MIT), runs locally via npx and uses your own RapidAPI key, so your key and your quota stay with you. Results are sorted newest first by default and are returned both as text and as structured JSON for agents.
Features
| Name | Type | What it does |
|---|---|---|
search_jobs | Tool | Search postings by country, title, occupation, skills, company, city, remote/hybrid/onsite, contract and work type, language, industry, posting date, salary and direct-employer flags. 10 postings per page, newest first. |
count_jobs | Tool | Count the postings that match the same filters - for labour market questions without fetching postings. |
get_rss_feed_url | Tool | Build an RSS feed URL for a search, e.g. to import jobs into job board software. Makes no API request. |
list_filter_values | Tool | List the most common values of a filter (work place, industry, occupation, skills, company, city …) in the last 30 days with posting counts - to find exact filter values or the top hiring companies. Needs a PRO plan or higher. |
Set it up in 4 steps
- Get a free API key: Subscribe to the free plan of the Techmap Jobs API on RapidAPI (1,000 job postings per month) and copy your X-RapidAPI-Key.
- Add the server to your MCP client: Add the server to the mcpServers configuration of Claude Desktop, Cursor or any other MCP client and set your key as TECHMAP_RAPIDAPI_KEY.
{ "mcpServers": { "techmap-jobs": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "@techmap/mcp-server"], "env": { "TECHMAP_RAPIDAPI_KEY": "your-rapidapi-key" } } } } - Or use Claude Code: In Claude Code, add the server with one command.
claude mcp add techmap-jobs -e TECHMAP_RAPIDAPI_KEY=your-rapidapi-key -- npx -y @techmap/mcp-server - Ask for jobs: Ask your assistant, e.g. "Find remote Python developer jobs posted in Germany this week" or "How many nursing jobs were posted in Austria in September?".
Each search page uses 10 postings of your RapidAPI quota, a count or an RSS URL uses none of the postings quota. The free plan of the Techmap Jobs API includes 1,000 job postings per month; paid plans cost $1 per 1,000 job postings.
Use cases
- Job search assistants that answer with current postings instead of outdated training data
- Labour market questions: how many jobs of a type were posted where and when
- Sales and recruiting research: which companies are hiring for a role or technology
- Agents that build RSS feeds for job boards or newsletters
